Kee Avil has been hard at work throughout 2023 composing and recording the follow up to her acclaimed 2022 debut album Crease (look out for more info on that in early 2024). Meanwhile this year she also invited four artists she hugely admires to re-imagine Crease tracks, and these remixes are now in, teed up as Constellation's final release of 2023. Spanning eerily spacious deconstructions to ebullient pop-inflected dancefloor-adjacent jams, the plunderphonic tracks on Crease Remixed are a trip, picking apart and reconstituting four of the finely wrought electro-acoustic assemblages from the original album, moving them into more overtly electronic and sampladelic terrains.
Remixers include: vocalist, sitarist, composer and producer Ami Dang from Baltimore, who blends elements of North Indian classical, noise/ambient electronics, beat-driven psych and experimental dance pop; Pelada, the collaborative project between singer Chris Vargas and electronic music producer Tobias Rochman, whose Pan debut garnered international attention for a sound honed through their emergence from Montréal’s underground club scene; Cecile Believe, the moniker of former Montréal indie stalwart Caila Thompson-Hannant (Shapes And Sizes, Think About Life), now a Los Angeles-based writer/producer whose credits include Sophie, Caroline Polachek, Hannah Diamond and Magdalena Bay; and fellow Angelino claire rousay, whose sound collage works explode the significance of personal emotions and the minutiae of everyday life with the incorporation of voicemails, haptics, environmental recordings, stopwatches, whispers and conversations.
"I feel really lucky to be hearing my songs through the minds of these artists that I love, clashing minds for a second, peeking into some kind of alternate reality of what these songs could have been, are, where curiosity grows. They’ve brought the music to new places, and us along with it… grateful for the ride." - Kee Avil
